NOTES FROM STEPHEN

Introducing #Requests

Last week I made the case for AMAs as the best way to give back to the community. This week is about the other side of that - asking for help.

We just opened a new channel in the community called #Requests. It's for specific asks like an introduction to a specific person, advice on a decision you're facing or a recommendation for a vendor or tool.

Three rules to prevent spam:

  • Be specific. "Looking for intros to investors" is not allowed. "Looking for an intro to a sponsor bank that works with early-stage fintechs" is perfect.

  • No customer asks. Requesting to be connected to customers isn't what this channel is for.

  • Help each other, ideally for free. If helping someone out leads to a paid relationship eventually, then great! But all initial help should be for free.

For a model of what a good ask looks like, scroll down to the end of Mordi's interview. He has two, and they're both specific enough that someone reading this can act on them.

Co-founder & CEO, Uno Wallet
San Francisco Bay Area · YC Spring 2026 · Building the AI wallet that picks the right credit card for every purchase

Mordi is building Uno Wallet, an app that automatically picks the right credit card to tap at checkout so you max out rewards without thinking about it. He worked on the Bloomberg Terminal before heading to Harvard for his MBA, where he met his co-founder Saket (formerly of xAI). Uno just came out of YC's Spring 2026 batch with a round closed. Mordi has a few asks for the community at the end.

❝

Mediocre salespeople try to win the meeting. Great ones help the buyer win the meetings they are not in.

Mordi Shadpour

You're the founder of Uno Wallet, an app that automatically picks the right credit card for any purchase to maximize your rewards. Genius. What's your favorite credit card perk?

Probably the concierge service that comes with premium cards like Venture X. If I'm planning a date night, I can call while I'm driving, give them the neighborhood, timing, budget and what kind of place we're in the mood for, and they'll find a restaurant, suggest the rest of the evening and make the reservation. It's not the highest-value perk on paper, but it's one of the few that gives me time back.

You just wrapped up your time at YC and closed a funding round. What do the next six months look like for Uno Wallet?

YC creates an unusual amount of momentum in a very short period. The next six months are about turning that into a durable company: launching Uno, making our first few hires, staying close to users and building habits that will still work as the team grows. The hardest part will probably be deciding what not to do.

You earned your MBA from a random school in Cambridge, Massachusetts, right? What was your most impactful experience there?

The people, easily. I met classmates from all over the world whose paths, ambitions and ideas about a meaningful life were completely different from mine. Learning where they came from and what they hoped to build next exposed me to possibilities I had never considered and made me question assumptions I didn't know I had. A close second was Entrepreneurial Sales with Lou Shipley and Mark Roberge, which gave structure to lessons I had mostly learned by instinct.

You also have a lot of sales experience. What separates great salespeople from mediocre ones?

For complex sales, the best salespeople understand that the person across from them still has to sell the decision internally. They help that person build the case: why the problem matters, what happens if nothing changes, and how to answer the objections that will come later. Mediocre salespeople try to win the meeting. Great ones help the buyer win the meetings they are not in.

What does the team look like today? What will it look like in a year?

We're two co-founders plus founding engineers. My co-founder and I met at Harvard; he went on to xAI and I previously worked on the Bloomberg Terminal. We've hired engineers and are hiring two more technical people right now. A year from now, I expect the team to stay lean — under 10.

If you could ask the JSuite community for help with one thing to grow Uno Wallet, what would it be?

I'll give you two:

  1. Referrals to exceptional technical talent — the best you've ever met. Ideally based in the SF Bay Area.

  2. Introductions to people in the credit card world: card issuers, digital banks, sponsor banks and the like.

Have you met anyone in JSuite you'd like to give a shout-out to?

Aidel! I reached out after seeing her note in the JSuite newsletter. She has a product background at Amex and gave me useful feedback when Uno was still very early.
